Choose the writing studio that fits the book you are making.
The useful differences are not a star count. They are where your work lives, how the tool is paid for, whether AI requires another service, and whether the workflow ends at drafting or carries into production.
Epoch Studio is a Windows-first launch in preparation. It is not a better immediate purchase than software that is available today. These comparisons are for authors deciding what they need next.

Novelcrafter
Novelcrafter’s Codex and flexible model connections make it a serious option for authors who want control over the AI provider or who already run a local model. Its public plans begin at $4/month without AI and $8/month for the AI-enabled Hobbyist plan. Its own help explains that AI use connects to an external vendor or local model. Choose Novelcrafter when configurable model choice and browser access matter more than an integrated local model path.
